In our continuous effort to provide a more stable, secure, and modern platform for every customer, we are announcing the upcoming discontinuation of the direct file editor for open-source plugins. We are committed to remove the functionality by Oct 24, 2025.
No previous alteration will be removed automatically, your plugins will continue to work with your latest changes.
Reasons for deprecation
We understand that this feature has provided a convenient way to apply direct modifications. However, the practice of altering live plugin files, often known as "hot patching," is an outdated pattern that introduces inherent risks to security and stability. As we evolve our technical architecture to support your growth, we must move towards safer, more reliable mechanisms.
Required action
To ensure a smooth transition, we recommend the following actions:
For Shop Administrators: If you need to customize a plugin's functionality, we encourage you to contact the plugin developer. Ask them to provide official customization options through the secure Plugin Config page, which is fully supported by our framework and poses no architectural risk.
For Plugin Developers: We strongly encourage adopting a Git-based workflow for all development. This industry-standard approach—which includes creating your own fork for open-source plugins—is a more mature, secure, and globally approved development pattern than directly editing files.
We recognize that any change to a familiar workflow can be challenging. This measure is essential for protecting the integrity of your business and ensuring a stable technical foundation for the entire PlentyONE ecosystem.
For allowing a transition between the already altered files and Git forks if necessary, the file browser will be kept visible for Open Source Plugins, allowing you to see the file content.
If you foresee this change creating a critical blockage for your business, please reach out to us directly via Service Desk, and we will work with you to find the best possible solution. Thank you for your understanding and partnership in building a more secure and reliable platform for the future.
