Reminder: First DocumentBuilder switch upcoming (15/02)
As previously announced, the switch of the first document types will take place shortly. From 15 February, templates for reorders, PO delivery notes, delivery notes and order confirmations can only be created using the DocumentBuilder. All other document types, especially tax-relevant documents, will be switched later, as listed in the EOL roadmap.
What do you need to do?
By this date, you should have created templates in the DocumentBuilder for the four document types mentioned so that the corresponding documents can still be created. Set your new templates to active, only then will they be used.
If you want to switch to DocumentBuilder before the changeover date, you can do this via the Settings UI (Setup » Documents » Settings). This applies to all document types listed in the EOL roadmap.Depending on your workflows, you will need to adjust your automated processes and event procedures, as asynchronous document creation will also take effect with the changeover. You can find more detailed information on this in our FAQ.
Make sure that you have assigned storage locations before creating the documents. Only then will storage locations also be displayed on the created documents if you have added the corresponding variables to the template.
These are the most important points to bear in mind. A few more words on frequently occurring topics and the DocumentBuilder in general.
We can see that asynchronous generation causes uncertainty. So to clarify: asynchronous does not mean that document creation always takes longer than in the old logic. It just means that the generation can take different lengths of time. However, we are not talking about minutes or the blocking of usual workflows. Normally, you won’t notice any difference in time. Rather, the changeover has given us the technical advantage of being able to track more precisely what happens when and catch more errors as well as react to them directly. This was not possible with the old logic and is a significant improvement.
However, if you have a specific use case in which you encounter problems, please let us know. We will of course look into it and help you solve the problem.
In connection with other problems, the issue of postponing EOL dates is raised from time to time. In general, we are always in close internal consultation and consideration of announced dates and roadmaps for every topic. The DocumentBuilder has been in the open beta phase since June 2023 (marked by the tag „Test phase“) and since then we have been constantly making improvements, also based on your feedback. Now the DocumentBuilder is at the stage where phasing out the old document templates is the logical next step. This does not mean that we will stop working on the DocumentBuilder after the switch. We will continue to take your feedback and suggestions on board and have already planned further features for the DocumentBuilder.
Here is where you can get support with the changeover:
We have put together a FAQ DocumentBuilder, which we are constantly updating and expanding. There you will find information on the most important points. There are also two guided tours in the DocumentBuilder to get you started. Moreover, the manual is also constantly being updated.
As usual, you can also contact our support team in the forum if you have any questions or need assistance. Please note that it may take longer for you to receive feedback. The closer we get to the changeover date, the more inquiries and therefore longer waiting times we expect. We will of course try to respond as quickly as possible.
