We would like to inform you about important changes that affect your products in consumer electronics. From 28 December 2024, new labelling requirements will apply to power supply units for electrical appliances with a radio function pursuant to EU Directive 2022/2380 and § 38 Section 2 FuAG. This means that you will have to provide more detailed information both on the packaging and online when bringing new devices onto the market.
Scope of the regulation
The new rules apply to many common electrical devices, such as the following.
Mobile phones, tablets and e-readers
Digital cameras
Headphones, headsets and speakers
Portable games consoles
Keyboards and mice
Portable navigation systems
Laptops (only from 28.04.2026)
Note that the regulations do not apply to stock and warehouse goods that have already been traded by the effective date. Explicitly for laptops, the obligations only apply to devices that are put into circulation for the first time on 28 April 2026.
The labelling obligation applies to both online offers and packaging. In online shops and marketplaces, the labelling must be placed on the product detail pages, close to the price, so that customers can easily find the information. In addition, the new labelling must be clearly visible on the product packaging and in the instructions for use.
Impact of the labelling obligation
There are two important aspects that need to be considered in terms of labelling:
Pictogram: From now on, it must be clearly labelled online whether a power supply unit is included in the delivery or not. There is a special pictogram that must be used for this purpose.
Label: In addition, an online label is used, on which the most important charging characteristics of compatible power supply units must be indicated. This includes the minimum and maximum power and whether the power supply supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD).
Content and format of the pictogram and the label in the Annex to Directive 2022/2380
In addition, it must be possible to purchase devices both with and without a power supply unit. The obligation to inspect for correct labelling is also assigned to the retailers. If the labelling obligation is not complied with, distributors could face penalties from the Federal Network Agency.
Maintenance of item information and data transfer to marketplaces
We are in constant dialogue with all sales channels to ensure the transfer of this required information. Where we have already received relevant information, the implementation has either been completed or is currently being finalised. You can find an overview of the current status of the individual sales channels in the following forum post. Please note that the required fields are not yet visible in some templates, as they have not yet been provided by our partners.
