Starting 1 March 2025, important changes to Zalando's item attribute requirements come into effect: 

Zalando will remove 24 optional attributes globally and 32 optional attributes from certain silhouettes. There will also be 5 new optional attributes.

Additionally, 18 attributes that were previously marked as "mandatory, if applicable" will become mandatory.

Procedure for setup

To obtain the new attributes and selection values in your system, please proceed as follows:

1. Convert silhouettes to characteristics

2. Add the characteristics to your items

3. Enter the data for the characteristics on the items

Notes on the EOM of the characteristics

The characteristics will remain intact as usual after the announced EOM on 1 February 2025. Your processes for Zalando will also remain unaffected.

As we already have a better alternative to the characteristics in the properties, we would like to gradually replace the characteristics in all integrations so we can eventually switch them off. However, this will only happen once we can provide an alternative solution within the Zalando integration. We assure you that we will not discontinue the characteristics until it is clear, how we can replace them for Zalando and what action is required from you.

The next steps

In the near future, the Zalando interface will be moved to the Channel Layer and equipped with a catalogue implementation. At the same time, the zDirect API will be connected, which will also be used to export product data in the future.
