The latest announcements and our product roadmap.
In order to make search functionalities more efficient, flexible and relevant, we are currently working on a new solution to improve Quick Search and Autosuggestions. Currently, the search is often static and does not automatically take into account whether you are searching for an ID (numbers), names (letters) or other attributes (e.g. email address).
A universal search (which searches for the term throughout the system) could be a solution, but our research has shown that it often returns too many irrelevant results. An example: If you search for "Micha" and press Enter, hits with "Micha" in the name, address, external orders, etc. will appear - a multitude of results that make it difficult to find.
To make the search more accurate and efficient, we are planning to add two new functions to our search:
Automatic recognition of input typeAutomatically recognises whether the input contains only numbers, only letters or special characters.
Prioritises relevant results accordingly:
Numbers → IDs (e.g. Item IDs, order IDs) are returned first.
Letters → Names, contact details, etc. are weighted higher.
Special characters (e.g. @) → Probability-based weighting (e.g. favours email addresses).
Less relevant results are displayed further down, but are still accessible at the bottom of the list.
Note: While numbers and letters can be recognised with a high degree of certainty, the assignment of special characters is sometimes ambiguous. Here, we work with a combination of algorithm optimisation and findings from various product teams.
Solution example: Numbers, letters
Solution example: Special characters (e.g. @)
Pin/unpin function for personalised searchAllows you to manually set a favourite search category if you repeatedly search for a certain type of information.
Example: If you want to check a series of email addresses, you can set email as a prioritised search field, regardless of the input type. Once you have completed the task, you can reset the prioritisation to default.
Solution example: Pin/Unpin
We want to make sure that these improvements really do make your search more efficient. We would therefore be grateful if you provided us with feedback on the following key questions:
How would the improved search help you solve the current problems with our auto-suggestions?
Would automatic prioritisation (type recognition) help you with your search? In which scenarios would it be useful or problematic?
Would a pin/unpin option help you with your search? In which scenarios would it be useful or problematic?
Are there any other search challenges that regularly cost you time that we haven't yet considered?
You can easily share your feedback with us via the forum or the Product Information Hub. Thank you for helping us to improve Quick Search!
Please note: We are currently in the design phase. Your feedback will flow directly into further development and help us to optimise the search function to meet your needs. The final implementation depends on the results of this phase.
