We’re excited to share an important usability improvement: the Search Autosuggest is now smarter and more adaptable to your workflow. This enhancement refines how search suggestions are prioritised, helping you find exactly what you need — without extra clicks.

Until now, search suggestions were predefined and often set up differently by each team. This sometimes led to less relevant results — for example, showing “ID” suggestions when typing a surname, or “Name” suggestions when entering an email address. With this release, autosuggest now recognises the type of input more intelligently, so both number-based and text-based searches show the most useful results first.

These changes will be shipped today.

What’s new

• Smarter input type detection: The system now distinguishes between alphabetical and numerical input. When you type numbers, alphabetical results automatically move to the bottom — and vice versa.

• Improved handling of email searches: When searching for email addresses, autosuggest now recognises the “@” character and prioritises email-specific results for greater accuracy.

• Personalisation through pinning: If multiple suggestions are of the same type (for example, Item ID and Variation ID) but one is more relevant to your workflow, you can now pin your preferred search suggestion to keep it prioritised and unpin it anytime.

We will continue refining the design guidelines to cover more scenarios and components. Beyond search autosuggest, our next focus will be on enhancing filtering chips behaviour and developing a global solution for operators in filters for more advanced searches.
