Flexible Customisation of Category Pages with Blocks
The current editor already allows merchants to flexibly design homepages and editorial content pages using block templates. However, this flexibility is not yet available for dynamic page types like category pages, where the layout is currently system-defined and not customizable.
Based on customer feedback - especially from existing customers familiar with similar functionality from the “ShopBuilder” - we are extending these design capabilities to category pages.
What we try to achieve
This new editor feature enables merchants to customize category pages individually and flexibly. They will be able to freely combine and arrange block templates such as product lists, filters, sorting options, banners, and other elements—without needing technical expertise.
A predefined default layout will remain available to provide an immediate ready-to-use solution, especially for users who do not wish to make customizations.
Here's how you benefit
Tailored design options: Adapt category pages to product assortments, brand identity, or promotional campaigns.
Full control over content and layout: Flexible placement of filters, product grids, banners, and more.
No reliance on developer resources: Changes can be made directly within the editor.
Improved customer experience: Customized shopping experiences can boost conversions and customer loyalty.
What will be delivered
Extension of the editor with flexible block-based layouts for category pages
Granular control over commerce components like product lists, filters, sorting, etc.
Provision of a default layout template for quick start
Ability to customize layouts at category or shop level
